I’m Leaving on a Jet Plane
You know that voice in your head, your conscience? The voice that tells you what's right and what's wrong. What decisions to make and how to go about living your life? Yeah, so hear me out okay? This might blow your mind, what if your conscience isn't you? But someone else or something else that is much, much, older. I know what you're thinking; Who does this guy think he is, suggesting such a concept like that? So before I go any further, I'm going to introduce myself. I am Jack, Jack Dirige-Ferro. I have a standard family, my parents and a little sister by the name of Chloe. So before you go on asking about my weird last name, know this. IT'S LATIN! Not Egyptian or anything of the sort. Many people hear the Ferro and immediately pin me as Egyptian. No, but kind of close. Apparently our ancestors were semi-wealthy Roman blacksmiths. When Rome converted about 1700 years ago our family just followed the flow of power and eventually made it to the Americas. Now we live in Colorado Springs, Colorado. For school I'm going to Manitou Springs Middle School and that's how it all started. So you see, every year, the school sends some 8th graders on a field trip to New York/Washington D.C. This is the year that I'm able to go on that trip. Bantering with my friends occupies lots of my time on the way there, or I can read a book. Anyway we aren't going anymore in detail about the ride, it starts to get interesting when we get there. I woke to the sound of the flight attendant's voice announcing that we will be landing shortly.

You did a great job with the hook. I mean I always get stuck when trying to write my hooks. I read just the first sentence and had to finish it all the way through. Keep on writing I'm excited for more.
Yeah, the way it starts out with questions... nice hook, like Tribus said. that it's like you are breaking the fourth wall in theater, and speaking directly to us, the audience. Awesome. I'm curious to find out how pondering the nature of consciousness will connect up with a trip to D.C.!
