The Lost Battle of Cancer

Part 1:

In bed she lies
Overtaken by sleep
She lies in rest and peace
Atop a bed of roses

Goodbye said he
One last wish
A final kiss
Atop  a bed of roses

A mother wept
The pain of debt
Atop a bed of roses

Prayers are given
A sorrowful whimper has escaped
She is mourned
But we are not forewarned
Atop a bed of roses

Lost in battle
Gained her wings
Atop a bed of roses

Bravery and strength
Unwavering until the end
Unfairly taken by eternal sleep
It will eventuate again
Atop a bed of roses

The repetition of "atop a bed of roses" works really well. This poem made me feel really sad, which is a compliment - because art is meant to make us feel. Beautiful job.

Wow, well written. So much feeling, it gave me goosebumps and I felt sad thinking of all the people who have left this earth because of cancer.

So good! I started to cry. You should write a happy one next time, but it should be so happy you cry!

That is a extremely well written poem, and a sad one too. The sad reality is that many people are suffering from cancer and have been taken. This poem really makes you think about it.

Wow, this poem is really well written. My friends mom had cancer, and didn't survive, and this describes the mixed emotions cancer leaves behind. Have you lost a loved one to cancer? And is that why your writing this?

Yes, I have lost many family members due to cancer and have seen so many children, even if I don't know them, die. It is such a sad thing that not everyone acknowledges and I felt the need to show how awful cancer is.

Wow, this is deep. I like how you said, Atop a bed of roses, at the end of each paragraph. I feel like it could mean different things...This was really sad and it makes me think of how bad cancer is. Great work.
