Grandpa

Dear Grandpa,
I'm so happy you could be with me every year you could.

Dear Grandpa,
I wish you could still be here.

Dear Grandpa,
All those times that you picked us up with a smile on your face and a skip in your step.

Dear Grandpa,
The times that you sat in your favorite chair and droned on. We took that for granted.

Dear Grandpa,
You were the person who was there to pick me up when i fell down.

Dear Grandpa,
I wish I could have said goodbye.

Dear Grandpa,
Why did you have to leave?

Dear Grandpa,
Everyone keeps saying you are still in our memory.

Dear Grandpa,
I will never be able to see the wrinkles that found the edges of your eyes when you smiled. The gleam in your eye, full of life.

Dear Grandpa,
Goodbye.

This is really sad and deep. I loved it.

I love the fact that you started crying in the library when you wrote this. That's what real writers do. I like the repetition also, and that it is addressed TO your grandpa, it's not just ABOUT him.

This brought me to tears, I really want to hug the writer.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I just recently wrote a poem about my grandpa dying, and this totally reminded me of that.

I love this. My Popa died when I was five. It wasn't my first experience with death, but it was really an impactful part of my life. I was sad to see him go. Sometimes I lay in bed and wonder, "What would have happened if he had lived?" Death is natural. Thank you for reminding me. Will you please do another like this?

I'm sorry for your loss. I love how the poem is layer out to where every stanza has "dear grandpa" to start it. This poem really got me thinking about my grandma and when she died. Good job!
