Beautiful night skies
I am just that little piece of bark, lonely piece of bark. Iv'e seen lots more burgers and noses than most pieces of bark have. I smell like vanilla; people love smelling me. Although most happen to just walk right past me. I am 371 years old and see about 50 people and animals a day. It's so depressing because I get to watch people laughing and having a blast. Yet I am just alone and have no friends. In fact I wish I had friends to play with and talk too. I've seen and felt so much snow, wind, ants, squrriels, hot sun, dark night skies, everything possible. I see animals fighting, playing, hunting, parenting, and even some animals doing animal business. I am a very brave little piece of bark, yet one things scares me. That one things is the sound of saw chopping fellows trees and pieces of bark. I don't exactly know what or who it is but I know that someday it will be what ends me.
If I live to 372, I will see more people more animals and best of all more beautiful night skies.

I love that this is both sad, funny, and hopeful simultaneously! I laughed at the "animals doing animal business" part, and am thinking more seriously about how we treat the environment as well.
I think you did a great job of capturing what it would feel like to be a piece of bark, good imagery too.
Wow! Great piece. Was this about the stuff that Ms. Spengler brought in?
