Ammissura, Chapter 1: The Beginning of the End

It all began many years ago when the lord was known as a Man of War. I was far from being born and the only people protecting the faint and meek were the Grey Wardens. The ones who fought for strength and salvation when no one else would. They had no family except other wardens. They had given all other family up so that they can stand up and triumph over the darkness. By darkness I mean the Darkspawn, a race of horrific creatures who try to kill everyone and everything. It is said that the Grey Wardens protected everyone from a blight, which is a huge wave of millions of Darkspawn. It's said Grey Wardens rose up from the depths of defeat and beat the odds. Or so the legends go.

Hello, my name's Adan, a noble. A son of King Brice to be exact. Now, now don't get it wrong not the high king, but the king of Highever. That's where I am Highever Castle. I'm about 6 foot tall have short brown hair and green eyes. My family consists of me, my brother, Adrian, my mother, Evelyn, and my father, Brice. Usually we're quite a happy family, but not today.

It's January 3 and my brother, my father, and his best friend Arl Howe ride off to battle the Darkspawn. Not a blight, we hope, just a small group of a couple thousand coming from the Deep Roads. Anyway it was around dusk and Arl Howe had just arrived. I was sitting reading a good book about Grey Wardens when mid way through a line I hear,
"Hey pup!"
"Hey dad," I reply.
"Ah, so this must be Adan. No longer a boy I see. Anyway, good to see you lad!"
"And you Arl Howe," I reply. I looked at my dad to see him get an enormous delighted smile.
"Pup, the old Sage taught you of the Grey Wardens right?"
"Yes father" I become excited with all sorts of thoughts swirling around my head. I then added, "they are heroes of all of Ferelden." Everyone in the room except Arl Howe and I start to smile. Arl Howe began to talk then my dad yells,
"Send him in!" The wooden door on the opposite side of the room flys open and in comes a tall man with long black hair and a long black beard. He had green eyes, his hair is in a pony tail and he has two swords on his back. He walks over to us and my dad says,
"This is Duncan, a Gray Warden."
"Good evening your majesties, it's a pleasure to meet you," said Duncan. Arl Howe then jumps in exclaiming,
"Brice! You leave me at a disadvantage." Still in shock I stay silent
"Do say something pup," my dad says. I shake hands with Duncan as he says,
"What a pleasure to meet you."
"Trust me, the pleasure is all mine," I say trying to keep steady. My dad then begins to talk,
"Duncan is here to possibly recruit Sir Gilmore." I quickly jump in,
"Ah, Sir Gilmore will make a great Grey Warden."
"Well, if it was up to me I would pick y—."
"There will be no such thing!" My dad yells. Duncan realizes his mistake and quickly says,
"I meant nothing by it your majesty, I just meant that your sons a great warrior." My dad exhales and turns to me,
"Go find your brother, he's probably with his family." I say my goodbyes and leave shutting the wooden door behind me. I know my father wants me to find my brother, so I begin to walk to his room. About halfway there I come around a corner and Sir Gilmore starts running towards me a panic and says,
" your majesty, your hound has the kitchens in uproar and Nan's very angry."
We run to the kitchen and swing the door open and hear,
"GET THAT BLOODY DOG OUT MY LARDER NOW!"
Sir Gilmore then says,
"Calm down good women, we're here to help."
With no time to talk I run into the larder to find my Mabari hound Toby, has killed 10 enormous gray rats that I'm guessing are from the Kakari Wilds. His huge mouth covered in dark red blood, runs over to me and gives me a huge disgusting slobbery lick. He then runs in three circles and barks happily waging his tail.
"Good boy!" I say. We then walk back into the kitchen, Nan takes one good look at Toby and says,
"Damned dog, licking his chops after helping himself to the roast no doubt."
"Actually, he protected your larder from big gray rats," I say in reply.
"G-g-gray rats they be from the Kakari Wilds" Said one servant
"They'll eat you up they will." Warned the other
"Ah, now you've gone and scared the servants," Nan rolls her eyes at me and then yells, "Be gone now I've got work to do!"
Sir Gilmore leaves and I continue on my way. I take a right then a left and another right. As I walk down the long corridor containing pictures of my grandparents, I hear my mother come around a corner and say,
"Speaking of my sons here's my youngest now." She then glances over at me and says happily, "I'm sure you remember Lady Landra my dear." I nod and turn to Lady Landra and her two kids
"Yes, its a pleasure as always Lady Landra," I say in the nicest tone possible.
"Your too kind dear boy, didn't I spend half of your mothers spring salon shamelessly flirting with you? Her son then cuts in,
"In front of our entire family I might add."
"Yes, I was rather intoxicated that night," she says sheepishly. There is then a moment of awkward silence before her son says
"I think I shall retire to the study for now."
"I think I'll join you," Lady Landra says. My mother hugs me and continues to walk down the corridor leaving me alone in the massive hallway. By the time I finally make it to my brothers room it has felt like an eternity. I walk to the massive oak door and pull it open so that I can hear little Oren say,
"UNCLE, UNCLE, I hear that you will be in charge of the castle while everyone is gone."
"Yes Oren, it's true," I say.
"Will the castle be attacked? Will there be Dragons?" His mother cuts in to fast for me to answer saying,
"No Oren, dragons only exist in fairy tales."
Oren then quickly loses interest and turns to my big brother Adrian and says loudly,
"Pa, will you bring me back a sward?" My brother laughs then says,
"That's sword Oren, and I'll bring you back the mightiest sword I can find. Oren then begins yelling,
"TAKE THAT DIRE BUNNY, FEAR MY SWARD OF TRUTHINESS!" After he finishes I start to talk,
"I wish I could come with you brother."
"Me too, but you must have my back by staying here and protecting the castle," he says. I sigh then perk back up and say,
"I know, I know. Anyway I must get an early night, goodnight, Adrian." He wishes me good night and I head to my room and go to sleep. ROUF, ROUF, ROUF
"What is it boy?" ROUF, ROUF. KATHUMP, KATHUMP, EEEEEERCH.
"Sir, the castle is under att—
